Tonight on Gossip Girl I noticed an Eames lounge chair in a non-traditional fabric. First of all, it was fabric, secondly, it was some sort of repeating zig-zag. I had to rewind the scene a couple times, and then I had to go back to listen to what the actors were saying.
In fact, it's not the only lounge chair in a fabric I've spotted lately: Dr. House on House also has one upholstered in a super-wide wale corduroy.

How do we feel about the iconic Eames lounge chair in something other than an 'estate-approved' covering?
Fantastic and innovative re-do or scary and inappropriate messing about?

i saw the chair on House and thought it was awesome!
Don't mess with a classic.
If I could afford an Eames lounge (in good condition)I don't think I would mess with perfection.
I'd have to say case specific...
ps I totally love MCM!
I'll have you know I have to 2 of the most fab MCM dining sets in my house and still pining for a S. tulip table (if only i didn't have too many kids I just don't dig the oval as much!)
Man, I love that you love these kind of houses in Provo. I have always wishing Provo had more houses like they have around Center street... BUT seeing your love for them is helping me see them in a new light.
I would only feel ok recovering an Eames lounge if it wasn't in good shape and really needed the new upholstery.
I'm totally onboard with it. I LOVE IT! WANT ONE! TELL SANTA!
Just thought I'd let you know from 1956-1962 Herman Miller offered the Eames lounge chair and ottoman in leather, naugahyde or FABRIC. From 1962 on it it has only been offered in leather. But for me, I prefer the leather. In fact mine has the original early 60's red/oxblood leather. I don't think I would ever change it.
I've noticed the corduroy eames lounge on HOUSE a few times now. I'd rather it be a real leather one. I've also noticed some other great furniture pieces on that show. I remember seeing a white Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair once.
I must agree. That IS the cutest gingerbread house EVER!
absolutely i'd love an(other) Eames in a current fabric or leather. why not? it's cool. i love mid century, and i love it with a 21st century edge.
proud owner of 2 Eames lounges & ottomons (1 in black leather and the second one in a caramel leather); Noguchi table; Nelson bench; Nelson chest.
It's killing me that I can't get the font of this text to courier. Killing me.
