A first for MCM Utah--a home in Springville.
I rarely get down to Art City, but on an evening trip a couple weeks ago I noticed an amazing MCM home. As I drove around the neighborhoods, even more houses popped out at me. I decided I needed to go back during the day to snap a few pictures. Around that time a friend told me that I'd love a Springville home that is in her family. We went to check it out one fine morning, and what a find!
Yes, that's a residential butterfly roof. Incredibly lovely.
The house is a neutral colored brick, with barn red siding, and mint trim. I love the graduated windows and the use of the lot.
You can see both a garage (in mint/aqua) and a carport. The driveway slopes slightly down from the street, taking advantage of the lot. Notice the small windows on the western facade. These days we'd probably put large windows in their place, but in the late 50s, when this house was built, smaller windows on an exposed western side would have provided better energy efficiency. The plants must be original as well. Those yuccas were probably planted to give the house the Palm Springs feel. In fact, all of the plants are period--what a trip!
I don't know what it is about a butterfly roof, but they just enchant me.

Oh, Flyswatter, that is so SAD. I'm sure it will be some stupid traditional/tuscan cross that makes me grimace at the shame. People just don't get it.
So glad you posted this! my husband and I have our little hearts set on a MCM house in Springville for our next home. There are lots of great ones up towards the east bench.
That is one cool house.
I need to find something that nifty that is for sale.

That is an incredible MCM home. There are lots here in El Paso and priced so well. I actually have my eye on one in Oak Hills and know the family personally, we're acting as vultures for the next year or so when the family finally decides to sell- it will be our "investment" till we can move back to Provo. If that plan fails I need to look into Springville, in some ways Springville is a good option, it's like Provo in the '70's or '80's.
I love it but what I like even more is the backdrop of scenery behind it.
Hoping for a picture of the new place! (don't worry, we've left Provo and are FAR!)

I got the chance to go tour the home in Springville last week. It is amazing!!! Even better than I had hoped. It's great to find people here who appreciate vintage homes and things in general. I think it's a relatively rare bunch. especialy in Utah County. There are tons of great homes here. We just need more people to appreciate them and restore them!! Would you like to meet up for lunch sometime??
Flyswatter I checked out 1266 Cedar on the MLS. It is awesome and a good price to for the area. Too bad I have pics if anyone wants to see it.
i am a first timer to your blog and i love it. incidentally, we just this past week were very close to buying a lot in farmington. we intended to build a mid century modern butterfly roof home on it. we asked feedback from the neighbors.....and they hated it. they said it looked "trashy", "cheap", and said it may bring down their property value. we nixed the idea. we'll be looking elsewhere, i guess. davis county can be frustrating. anyhow, thank you for your efforts on this blog, i love it.

And you should update! One of the things I loved about Utah Valley was the MCM.
I lived in Springville when first married. We lived down the street from Hogi Yogi but I can't remember the street number. We lived in the 3rd floor MCM addition to a 1920's (or so) apartment building that had previously been a Presbyterian church dormitory, from what I understand. WE had it all, including pink bathroom fixtures, in our 3 room little apartment. And then we had hornets. So we had to move. To a 1970's (I am guessing) era four-plex. But I had a washer and dryer so I was happy.
Oh my word, how have I not stumbled on here before? And how did I miss that you are a mid-century freak, too? Love it.
If you come to San Diego for Blogher (which you'd better) I will take you on a tour of the SoCal Eichler homes. To die for.
